Our Story
Merner Contracting Ltd has been a family owned business since the 1940’s. It was started by brothers Ken and Merton. The business started, and is still located, on the same 85 acres of land at 77136 Tipperary Rd, RR#3 Clinton, On. In the early 40’s, Merton was called into military service for WWII. Ken and spouse Helen, continued to run Merner contracting, growing the business from the first snow removal contract with Goderich Township to a successful construction company.
In 1968, Ken’s son Gary, with spouse Maxine, joined the family business. At this point the business was expanded to include Aggregate production and services. Large equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, dump trucks, draglines and crushers where purchased.
In 1975, the business was Incorporated into Merner Contracting Ltd. with further expansion and the purchase of two gravel pits in Goderich Township.
During the 80’s, Ken and Maxine’s two sons, Dan and Rod joined the family business and also formed a sister company, Merner Aggregates, acquiring additional land for gravel pit development and expanding the equipment line.
Today, Merner Contracting Ltd. and Merner Aggregates together, have acquired over 250 acres of aggregate land, employ 25 people and a large fleet of trucks and equipment to handle a variety of projects.
